The Advance Stage usually goes from 16 to 17 years old; however, we use age merely as a tentative guideline to place students in the correct development stage. In fact, this stage can start at 16 and go to the 'senior' years of over 21, depending on each player’s circumstances.

Our Weekly Programs are little extracts of the Annual programs the tennis academy offers, which are based on the ES Academy Pyramid©.

These years are very special to many players, especially the ones that have been developing more slowly. Suddenly, they start to see their potential and feel more confident about challenging opponents of any level.

As mentioned in Pre-Advanced, we continue working on the tactical pillar, with lots of match situations, starting with drills, continuing with rallies and trying to use them both in matches.

The physical and mental pillars remain crucial to leveling the 'mind and body' playing field.

Benefits of the Emilio Sánchez Weekly Programs

  • ES Academy Training System©: You will train with the same system as our annual players: high performance tennis with special emphasis on the Sports Science Area. Our method is suitable for all types of players, regardless of age, fitness condition and tennis experience.
  • Improve Language Skills: The program includes language classes, choosing between English or Spanish classes. They take place in ES American School, an American school located inside our facilities, and are given by native teachers.
  • Tournaments: For stays longer than one week, players have the opportunity to participate in local tournaments, as well as national, or even international events, that are being held during their stay.
  • Supervisory staff 24/7: Our supervisors take care of the players 24 hours a day and are responsible for the safety and welfare of students living in the Academy. Players can live on campus from 12 years old and above and from 10 years old during the summer.
  • Optional Push Program: You can boost your tennis level even more with the Push Program. With this option, you get a daily 1 hour private tennis class, and 2 hours per week of physical training, personally supervised by the Fitness Head Coach.

General objectives of the stage

The players continue competing against opponents from any level.

They continue developing their pattern and their most succesful shots, and they also try to compensate their weakneses to avoid vulnerable areas.

On the mental side, we focus on how to deal with adversity and control high-pressure situations.

Usually, at this stage players determine if they want to pursue college tennis and/or compete on the professional tour. Players should keep in mind that many top college players do become tennis professionals after their collegiate career. This important decision must be made at this stage, because college coaches start recruiting top prospects early.

Specific objectives

Tournaments and travelling team

  • A personalized program is created to include local, regional, national and international tournaments throughout the year (The academy also hosts several international tournaments throughout the year).
  • Assistance from our coaches of the Travelling Team is offered during all these tournaments.

ES Academy Training System©

  • The ES Academy Training System© is unique in the world. Designed by Emilio Sánchez Vicario, it is based on four core pillars: technical, tactical, physical and mental.
  • Each of these four pillars is developed intensively, and each is tailored to the player’s stage, which depends on age, physical condition and tennis level. The stages are reflected in the ES Academy Development Pyramid©, and range from the initiation stage to the elite stage.
  • In the area of sports science, the program includes all services on site that the player may need, such as physical training, nutrition, sports psychology, and physiotherapy.
  • The ES Academy Training System© includes the ES Academy Athlete Mind System: an on-court and off-court mental coaching system with the mental and tennis coaches working together.
